THE CANE
MAGICIAN
Ana Silva works with plant fibres. Her workshop is located in São Bartolomeu de Messines, in the municipality of Silves. She comes from a rural background. She carries with her ancient knowhow, mastering materials and techniques, using native vegetation to creatively innovate. She sources what she needs from the countryside, treating the material naturally as generations have done before her. She is dedicated to recreating and innovating solutions using cane. Flutes, whistles, reco-recos, there are so many sounds that can be created from nature’s gifts. She works with the TASA Project in the creation of everyday use objects, such as useful cane clips for closing bags and packets, and also the walking sticks or “memory sticks” accompanying walkers as they venture down nature’s trails.
