THE PASSION FOR WOOD

After twenty years teaching the visual arts, José Pedro Silva decided to dedicate himself to a passion: wood. For five years he learned how to work doors, frames, windows and other objects with a carpenter from Beja. Recently, he acquired the equipment from his master, left teaching and opened his carpentry shop.

His interest in the nature of materials and their creative possibilities, as well as his knowledge of the technical basics of traditional carpentry, fuel his pedagogical disposition for making people aware of the use of natural and solid wood, with proven resistance, beauty and durability. This is how he advises his customers to make their doors in afzelia wood or their furniture in national pine.

He took pleasure in embracing the challenge thrown down by TASA of working local wood, such as holm oak, in a more craft-focused way, although it is very difficult to find anyone who supplies such timber.

José Pedro Silva currently works with Dmytro Prytula, whose long experience has further bolstered the carpentry project.
