Karin Pereira

DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE 
IN A CORK CRADLE

She was born in Vienna, and works for Cascais Municipal Council. She gained a degree in architecture from the Universidade Lusíada in 2000, and studied in Hamburg, Germany, as part of the ERASMUS programme. She also took a post-grad course in Sustainable Development and Local Agenda 21 at Oporto’s Universidade Católica. In 2014 she took part in a sustainable architecture workshop organised by the Kunstuniversität Linz in Austria.

She has worked with the architectural firms Pedro Mendes Arquitetos and Aires Mateus Associados. Karin and Sofia Chinita have worked together since their time at the Aires Mateus Arquitectos practice, in 2006. Since then they have worked in architecture and design. In 2007 they won the “2nd LIC Lisbon Ideas Challenge” urban design with photovoltaics and in 2014 2nd prize in the Green Furniture Award, in Sweden, with the “sleep tight” cork cradle, developed by TASA.
