Pedro Piedade
THE POTTER
FOLLOWING IN THE
FAMILY TRADITION
Pedro Piedade was born in Loulé. At the age of 16 he left school and started working at his father’s pottery, alongside his father and his elder brother, who taught him all they knew. A quarter of a century later, and in the heart of potter territory, Pedro keeps the city’s only pottery running, thanks to the passion flowing in the family bloodline. He currently works with his mother and sisters, producing a range of pottery pieces. He works regularly with the TASA Project, striving to faithfully interpret the innovative creations the designers present him with. He couldn’t imagine life without handling clay and hopes that the tradition is passed on to others, ensuring the city doesn’t forget one of the region’s most important crafts.
